Meditation Techniques - What To Do BEFORE You Meditate!

by Gregg Prescott, M.S.

Equally as important as meditation is what you do before you meditate.  You want to be relaxed and spiritually protected at all times, because when you meditate, you become spiritually vulnerable to ethereal attacks.

Meditating is a profoundly powerful practice that can lead to spiritual growth and lead to greater connection with our true selves. However, it is essential to protect yourself before you meditate in order to ensure that the experience is a positive one. This means setting up boundaries in order to keep out any negative energies or energies that could disrupt the meditation. This could include visualizing a protective bubble or shield around you or calling upon a higher power to protect you. This will help you to remain safe and secure during your meditation and allow you to explore the depths of yourself without fear of harm.

What To Do BEFORE You Meditate!

The first thing you will want to do is to relax by breathing in deeply through your nose, holding it briefly in your solar plexus stomach area, then slowly release your breath through your mouth.  While doing this, you can also begin to do a relaxation exercise.  Bring your chin down to your chest, and then slowly lift your head all the way back.  Then return your head to the upright position and slowly move your head from side to side one time.  Return your head to the upright position.  Bring your chin down to your chest and begin to rotate your head clockwise one rotation, then reverse this process one time.  Repeat this procedure several times while breathing deeply.

You are almost ready to begin your meditation.  At this point, close your eyes and ask your spirit guides and guardian angels for protection while you are meditating.  They are eagerly awaiting to help you at all times and are more than happy to assist you.

Envision a beautiful white light emanating from the center of your body and slowly extending outwards to cover yourself from head to toe.  Try to feel this light entering all of your extremities. This is your divine spark that will help to keep you protected.

You can extend this light as far as you wish.  I often extend it to cover my room, then my house, my city, state, country, planet, galaxy and universe. The Universe knows no boundaries!!

The next thing I do is something I borrowed from my dear friend, Miriam.  I envision myself hugging the planet, sending complete unconditional love to the world.

Now you are ready to begin meditating. Meditation is a versatile and personal practice, and it’s important to find what works best for you. Trying out different techniques can be a great way to start your meditation journey and discover what resonates with you. By experimenting with techniques such as the open eye meditation, mirror meditation, vipassana, and more, you can gain exposure to various approaches and find what feels most comfortable and effective for you.

It’s also important to remember that there is no one “right” way to meditate, and what works for someone else may not work for you. Everyone’s experience with meditation is unique, and it’s perfectly fine to develop your own style and technique as you continue your practice. In fact, as you become more familiar with meditation, you may naturally find yourself adapting and refining your own approach. So, feel free to experiment and don’t be afraid to make modifications as you continue your meditation journey. The most important thing is to find what works best for you and make meditation a regular part of your self-care routine.

On a side note, some people meditate to colors and directions.

Before entering into a meditation practice, it’s important to establish a sense of spiritual protection. This can involve visualizing a protective light surrounding you, calling upon your personal guides or angels, or reciting affirmations of safety and love. By creating a safe and sacred space, you can ensure that your meditation experience is free from any negative or disruptive energies. This practice of spiritual protection can also provide a deeper sense of peace and confidence, allowing you to fully surrender into the present moment and connect with your inner wisdom. So, remember to take the time to protect yourself before diving into your meditation practice, and enjoy the transformative power of inner connection.
