Check out some fun trivia about the Age of Aquarius and the 5th Dimension!
For example, it is quite ironic that the name of the band that sang "Aquarius" is named "The 5th Dimension" as many people belive that this is our next level of spiritual vibration..
Number one: The 5th Dimension brought the song “Age of Aquarius” to number one on the billboards for 6 weeks in 1969.
Versatile Hi-Fi's?: Two of the original 5th Dimension members (Lamonte McLemore and Marilyn McCoo) played in a band called the Hi-Fi’s in the early 1960’s. After reforming the band with several new members (Florence LaRue, Billy Davis, Jr. and Ron Townson), they changed the group’s name to the Versatiles in early 1966, but was quickly changed to the 5th Dimension as a suggestion by Townson later on that year.
Why 5D?: The name, The Versatiles, was a reference to their varied style in music, but producer Johnny Rivers thought the name was outdated. He wanted a newer sounding name for the group. Shortly afterwards, Ron Townson came up with "The 5th Dimension".
The group's name was changed to "something more up-to-date," recalled Lamonte McLemore. "[Ron] and his wife, Bobette, named the group the 3rd Dimension because 3D had just come out. But since the group was made up of five of us, it was named the 5th Dimension."
Music trancends everything: Original 5th Dimension band memer Ron Townson was quoted as saying, "You can always get to any race, creed or religion with music. I know some people accuse us of singing white, but it makes me laugh. It is based on ignorance. People sing styles; they don't sing colors."
Coincidence or synchronicity?: Many people find it quite ironic that a a band called the 5th Dimension would perform a futuristic song that has implications of the 5th dimensional vibratory level.
So when is the Age of Aquarius?: The actual date is highly debatable, even among professional astronomers.
According to Estelle Daniels, "The traditional (classical) astrologers will probably say the Age of Aquarius won't begin until 2300 (or so) when the Vernal equinox reaches the last star in the constellation Aquarius. Other astrologers will say the Age of Aquarius will begin anywhere from 1910 to 2410 depending on when the vernal equinox point hits the place one second more than thirty degrees behind Aries.""
After further review, it's already began: Samael Aun Weor, the founder of the Gnostic movement, tells us that the Age of Aquarius began on February 4, 1962. On that day there occurred a very interesting astronomical (and astrological) event. The planets Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn, along with the sun, the earth, and the moon, were all found in the constellation of Aquarius. In addition, a solar and lunar eclipse occurred which was visible in some parts of the Old World. The cosmic event that transpired on that day is extremely rare. Such a congregation of planets occurs only once every 2160 years, moving from one constellation to the next. Each time it happens it marks the beginning of a new era, or New Age, for humanity. February 4, 1962 marked the end of the Age of Pisces and the beginning of the Age of Aquarius. Due to the great significance of the new era, the 4th of February bears a special meaning for Gnostic students. This date is recognized as the official Gnostic New Year, and is celebrated at Gnostic centers throughout the world. February 4, 1998 will mark the beginning of the 37th year of the Age of Aquarius. source
What do the original writers of Aquarius/Let the Sun Shine In think?: Gerome Ragni: “‘68 was a moment of great hope and possibilities. To some extent, my generation blew it. So we watch it now with a renewed sense of hope and a sense of what we didn't accomplish. So it becomes hopeful again."
Jarvis Rado: Rado said the Age of Aquarius is still with us, and so Hair's make-love-not-war message remains relevant.
"The world's at war today and I think that's very bad," said Rado, who declined to give his age but, according to biographies, was born in 1932.
"That's the main issue, I think, the human condition and our whole relationship with other nations, other peoples and ourselves." source
Why is Aquarius an air sign when it symbolizes the water bearer?: The ancient symbol for Aquarius was the image of a man (Ouranos) pouring overturned urns of water from the heavens onto the Earth below. Ouranos was the original sky god who controlled all heavenly phenomena including the air, the winds and the rain-bearing clouds. Despite the connection of Aquarius with rain, ancient Greek astrologers regarded Aquarius as an air sign because of its symbolic connection with the winds as well as its geometric relationship with the other two air signs, Gemini and Libra, with which it forms the aspect of a trine.
The Sun reached its lowest point at the Winter Solstice on December 21, the start of Capricorn, and from there began its ascent back from the underworld. The re-emergence of the Sun from its dark night of the soul corresponds to the myth of Persephone’s release by Hades from the underworld to rejoin her mother above. Demeter (the Roman Ceres, the goddess of grain) was so delighted to regain her daughter that she put an end to the barrenness of ceaseless winter. The rains of Aquarius, the water bearer, are a gift from the gods that restore life to a dying planet and assure the continuance of the human race.
What planets rule the sign of Aquarius?: Saturn and Uranus. Saturn was the first planet originally linked to Aquarius, but Uranus was added after it was discovered in 1781. Uranus is associated in Roman Mythology with the Earth and Saturn being the Father of many Gods.
Aquarius is sometimes identified with Ganymede, a beautiful youth in Greek mythology with whom Zeus fell in love and, in the disguise of an eagle (represented by the constellation Aqila) carried off to Olympus to be cup-bearer to the gods.
What is the etymology of Aquarius?: Aquarius means Waterbearer in Latin. From aquārius (“water carrier”), from aqua (“water”) + -arius.
late 14c., faint constellation and 11th zodiac sign, Latin, lit. "water carrier," properly an adjective, "pertaining to water" (see aquarium); a loan-translation of Gk. Hydrokhoos "the water-pourer," old Greek name of this constellation. Aquarians were a former Christian sect that used water instead of wine at the Lord's Supper. Age of Aquarius (1940) is an astrological epoch supposed to have begun in the 1960s, embodying the traits of this sign and characterized by world peace and human brotherhood. The term and the concept probably got a boost in popular use when An Aquarian Exposition was used as the sub-name of the Woodstock Music & Art Fair (1969). source
Which tarot card represents Aquarius?: The Rider-Waite-Smith star card, numbered seventeen, depicts a naked maiden with one foot on the earth and the other foot in a body of water. In each hand she holds an overturned jug from which water flows to the earth below, an ancient symbol for the zodiacal sign of Aquarius, the water bearer.
The fool trump, numbered zero, is the first card of the major arcana. The Rider-Waite-Smith version depicts a young man staring toward heaven as he stands at the edge of a precipice, his small dog yapping at his feet. The fool represents the novice who is about to embark on a spiritual journey. The tradition of the Golden Dawn assigns the tarot’s fool trump to the planet Uranus.
Uranus (the Greek Ouranos) was the first child of Gaia (Mother Earth). As the original sky god, Ouranos became the first heavenly father when he poured water in the form of rain onto his mother earth below so that she would flourish with plant life. Ouranos also impregnated his mother to produce the first race of gods that ruled over mankind. Only when Ouranos became a tyrant did his mother plot with their son Cronos (Saturn) to wrest power from his father Ouranos by castrating him with a sickle. source
Exactly when the Age of Pisces started is in hot dispute. Speculations range from about 200 BCE. (the rise of Rome) to as late as 480 CE. (the fall of Rome). Common start dates are from about 100 BCE. to about 3 BCE. (The height of power of the Roman Senate in Republican Rome about 100 BCE.; the start of Imperial Rome with Julius Caesar's assumption of sole rulership in 49 BCE.; Augustus Caesar's being crowned Emperor in 27 BCE.; or the Birth of Christ in 3 or 4 BCE.) But if each age is 2160 years long, then precisely marking the start of the Age of Pisces, will tell us just when the Age of Aquarius begins. If it started in 200 BCE., then the Age of Aquarius started in 1960. If it didn't start until the Birth of Jesus, then the Age of Aquarius will have to wait until 2157. (or 2156, depending). And if you date it from the fall of Rome, we have to wait until 2640, that's even after Star Trek (which takes place in the 24th century).
The Changing of the Pole Star
Currently the northern end of the Earth's axis is pointed toward Polaris, the pole star. It was not always pointed there, and it will not always be pointed there. Vega will be the pole star in about 12,000 years, Menkar (Alpha Cephus) will be the Pole Star in about 5000 years and Thuban (the heart of Draco) was the Pole star about 5000 years ago. As Pole Stars go, Polaris is fairly dim and puny. The only thing which makes it remarkable is that it is the Pole Star. The rotation or wobble of the Earth on its' axis is slow. It takes 25,900 years (or thereabouts) for the Earth to rotate around a complete circle. As it does so, the Vernal Equinox point precesses (moves) backwards through the zodiac as the pole star changes.
Aquarius, however, is an eminently revolutionary sign, and its occult significance is knowledge. The constellation of Aquarius is governed by the planet Uranus, which is a completely revolutionary planet. The sign of Aquarius shows a man with two pitchers of water who is wisely combing these waters. The doctrine of the Age of Aquarius is thus termed the "Doctrine of the Synthesis", the synthesis of all authentic religions and systems of self-realization. In the Aquarian Age dogmatic types of Christianity will cease to be taught, and all dogmatic forms will disappear. In this age science will become religious, and religion will become scientific. Disagreements between science and religion will come to an end, and people will begin to comprehend that both spirit and matter are derived from the same source, and are only modifications of the One Universal Energy. In the Age of Aquarius humanity will have marvelous breakthroughs in many scientific disciplines, including physics, chemistry, astronomy, medicine, aviation, etc.
Throughout the world many people have personal views about the Aquarian Age, and, although many of these beliefs are beautiful, they are also extremely erroneous. Many have termed the Aquarian Age as the "Golden Age" of humanity, and others have predicted that this Golden Age will commence at the beginning of the new millennium (the year 2000). They say that, at that time, mankind will go through a radical transformation, filled with great splendor and magnificence. Such Utopian concepts, however, are unfounded. Every man, woman, and nation bears enormous karmic debts that need to be paid before a Golden Age can become a reality. And as long as the psychological ego, that multitude of negative psychological elements, exists within us, then how can a true Golden Age be created? Within our psyche exist all those factors that create wars, hatred, violence, envy, disharmony, etc. In order to create an environment of love, peace, and fraternity between every human being, we must first permanently eliminate the elements within us that create the exact opposite environment. V. M. Samael Aun Weor states that "in order to create, it is necessary to destroy." For a Golden Age to occur, every person must struggle and make conscious efforts to eliminate his or her psychological defects.
To bring about true social change we must first begin by changing ourselves. By practicing the Three Factors for the Revolution of Consciousness we can dissolve the negative elements found within our psyche and also create the inner virtues that are necessary to live in harmony with nature and the rest of humanity. We must consciously work towards this goal, even if others choose not to do so. In this way, regardless of whether a Golden Age exists externally, we are consciously working towards creating a "Golden Age" within ourselves.
